The Albury Wodonga Carer Accommodation Centre (AWCAC) has been selected as the nominated charity for the Hockey 8s tournament.

AWCAC is a joint initiative of local Rotary, Lions and Zonta clubs working with the Fight Cancer Foundation and is a notewrothy demonstration of cross border co-operation, local leadership and community initiative.

The new facility under construction in Keene Street, Albury, adjacent to the Base Hospital, will provide low cost, comfortable, furnished, safe and convenient accommodation for patients and carers who need to travel to Albury Wodonga for specialist medical treatment.  This will be of great benefit to residents of North East Victoria and Southern NSW.

The first stage of 20 motel style units with common cooking, dining, recreational and meeting areas is due for completion by the end of 2012.  The overall cost is $5.5 million with $2.25 million raised through government grants.  The balance will be met through public appeal with over $2.0 million already raised.

We hope the hockey community through the Hockey 8s Tournament can help in some way to achieving this target.
